
New Delhi : Special camps will be held throughout the country on March 9 to allow voters to check whether their names are on the electoral registers , Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said on Wednesday .
“The commission has received complaints that some people with EPIC ( Elector Photo Identity Card ) which in the past have been denied the right to vote because their names are not on the electoral lists ,” Sampath said.
The camps will be held on March 9 in all polling stations , officials in the booth electoral rolls show the required number of application forms will .
” We appeal to those who want to confirm their names to make use of this opportunity before the election , so if some people want to get enrolled may submit applications ,” he said .
The commission also clarified that only people allowed to vote at a polling station who are enrolled in the electoral census there .
” EPIC is just an identity document and does not confer the right to vote to any person whose name appears on the electoral roll ,” said the head of the electoral commission.
The commission also made it clear that the law does not allow the inclusion of names in electoral rolls after 3 pm on the last day for nominations until the election process is complete.
” All persons are therefore advised to be sure that their names are on the electoral roll .”
Voters can check their names on the website of the main election officials. Names can also be checked via SMS through the numbers provided by state election commissions.
” If the name of any registered person eligible to be left out for some reason it was sold without such person must immediately fill a request for inclusion of name in Form 6 and delivery to booth level officer , “he said .
