Pakistanis jailed in Spain for terror protest their innocence

Ten Pakistanis were jailed in December 2009 for plotting a terrorist attack on the subway.
ISLAMABAD ( AFP ) – A group of Pakistanis imprisoned in Spain in 2009 on a plot to bomb the subway in Barcelona protested his innocence Thursday, claiming they were framed by a corrupt witness.
Jan Khan, the legal adviser of the men said they wanted to clear their names of the terrorism charges .
Ten Pakistanis and an Indian were jailed for between eight and 14 years, in December 2009 to plan a terrorist attack on the subway.
Eight Pakistanis have served their sentences and seven of them have been deported , while one is a Spanish resident.
The seven appeared in a press conference with Khan in Islamabad.
“There was no evidence against them . They were convicted on the basis of a single witness who was bribed ,” Khan said.
“There were many Pakistanis and presented witnesses told the court they were innocent , but the court sentenced only on the basis of a single witness who was bribed by the Spanish secret services.”
He urged governments and Pakistani groups to try to get the case to be reopened rights.
” Our lawyer misled us . Advised us not to speak in court and could not adequately provide our position ,” said Hafeez Ahmed , a resident of Rawalpindi, who was arrested at a mosque in Barcelona.
He also stated that he had been tortured while in police custody.
