“I think Irrfan is the best actor in our country”

Rajkummar Rao has altered the rules of the industry and made a place for himself. Filmfare meets the underdog who’s set to hit big time

From being rejected numerous auditions to be one of the most talked about players in the Hindi Film Industry , Rajkummar Rao has come a long way . Right now, he is on the same pedestal as actors like Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui . Earlier this year, his caliber performance was generously rewarded when he won the Critics Awards for Best Actor (Male ) at the 59th Filmfare awards . Not only his performance in Shahid win the Black Lady, also won him great recognition within the industry.

” It feels great . I really did not think the prize would make me so happy. But when my name was announced, I was thrilled. I could not believe it . I was shocked . I had not prepared an acceptance speech and I was nervous when I got on stage . Even after keeping the trophy in hand, I could not believe I had won the prize . “It was his childhood dream to win a Filmfare award, ” I like to see the prizes every year on TV. He insists that there is more to it than just acting chops . He says: “The fact that I have bulging muscles and done , people do not see me that way Another drawback is that people have not been able to visualize myself singing songs and dancing because I have not done in my past . movies. not many know that I am a good dancer and have also been trained in martial arts for 10 years. ‘ve won gold medals at the national level . Even my mother asked me why I do not dance in movies. I say no I can dance in films like Shahid . they believe that if they dance and sing in the movies , people see me in a different light. ”

Rajkummar fought hard in its early days. Rejects, crushed dreams … he has faced every heart break . And if you think his fighting days are over, think again.
