
Srinagar : Two policemen were killed on Sunday when militants opened fire on the house of a youth leader in the power of the National Conference in Pulwama , the first terrorist attack directed electoral activities in Jammu and Kashmir this year.
Both attackers were later killed by the security forces . Shohda ( martyrs ) Brigade believed to be a shadow outfit of the militant group Lashkar -e- Taiba , claimed responsibility for the attack.
The militants opened fire on the residence Masoodi Yawar , who is organizing the youth wing of the National Congress in South Kashmir in Khrew in Pulwama , 35 km from Srinagar, this afternoon , police said .
Two policemen – Police Chief Abdul Hamid and Constable Vinod Kumar – posted on guard were wounded in the attack. They were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
The attack took place when Mr. Masoodi held a party meeting at his residence , a spokesman for the National Conference , he said.
Security forces pursued the militants and occupied the neighboring fields , police said adding a militant was killed .
The other militant involved in the attack was holding up last reports arrived , police said .
This is the first militant attack focus on election- related activity in Kashmir since the timing of Lok Sabha polls was announced by the Electoral Commission.
