PCB Chairman Najam Sethi and chairman of the selection committee of Pakistan, Moin Khan seem to disagree about who will lead Pakistan in the World Cup . Moin had mentioned a possible change in leadership on Tuesday, but the idea was shot down by Sethi , who said today that it had decided to stick with Misbah -ul- Haq .
” To be honest , a change was discussed in the captaincy , ” Moin said in a press conference in Karachi. “We have to make a decision, with the consensus with everyone in the PCB and the incoming head coach . Whoever is better will be the captain for Pakistan [ World Cup ] . ”
Sethi , however , threw his weight behind Misbah . “According to the rules , the PCB chairman selects coaches and team captains , selectors while selecting the teams,” Sethi said. ” Whatever the personal views of the selectors about who should be the captain , I stand by my decision to retain Misbah -ul- Haq as captain until the World Cup. ”
Misbah , 39 , was named captain full-time ODI team in 2011 and has taken on 71 general ODIs , winning 39 with an average of 47.21 with the bat – it’s better than his career average of 44.38 in 146 games . In 32 games in the last 12 months – of which Pakistan won 16 – had an average of 52.00, and was the cornerstone of the batt .
Pakistan is set to play 13 ODIs in next nine months prior to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next February and March. ESPNcricinfo understands that there are some who believe Shahid Afridi should take charge of Misbah ahead of the showpiece . Similarly for the 2011 World Cup Misbah was a strong contender for the captaincy , but after several weeks of uncertainty, Afridi was appointed captain.
