Jammu-Srinagar highway closed after snowfall, landslides
Jammu : Fresh snowfall and landslides on Monday the closure of the strategic Jammu – Srinagar highway forced .
An official of the Traffic Department told IANS that due to fresh snowfall in the Banihal sector and landslide in Panthal in the district of Ramban in Jammu region , vehicular movement on the road was arrested Monday morning .
“There was a landslide in Panthal near the city Ramban due to heavy rains in the area overnight. The landslide has been cleared now, but there are still conditions slippery roads in the Banihal sector due to snowfall . ”
” We have suspended the traffic on the road for the safety of passengers . Travelers are requested to contact with control centers in Jammu and Srinagar before undertaking the journey ,” said the official.
The road over 300 km in length is only surface link landlocked Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country , despite a rail link connecting the valley with the Banihal town through a tunnel over 11 miles long through Pir Panjal mountain range of .
