BJP is expected to decide in the next three days that Narendra Modi, its candidate for prime minister , will compete in the general election .
It is speculated that the BJP would field Mr Modi from one seat each in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Varanasi in UP is being discussed & Party hinted that he may choose to also challenge from either Ahmedabad or Vadodra in Gujarat this , his home state.
Sources said the BJP plans to contest 450 of the 543 seats in Lok Sabha elections to be held , but has announced 106 candidates. 19 – member central election committee of the party , which has in it the main leaders like Mr. Modi, Rajnath Singh and LK Advani , will meet tomorrow and is expected to finalize candidates for the remaining 344 seats.
” The CEC on March 13, first take the states and seats where no unanimity on candidates . ‘re 110 odd seats. Names of the seats have a competition can be taken by the CEC on March 15 . And then can be a final meeting after Holi (Monday March 17) , “said a source .
The rumor about Mr. Modi challenging Varanasi has excited workers and divide the top leadership . Much of the BJP in UP believes that if Mr. Modi contests Varanasi , you will attract voters in the ground state and in adjoining Bihar .
But the plan faces tough challenge from senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi , who won the seat in 2009 Varanasi .
If Mr. Joshi has to give way to Mr Modi in Varanasi , you may have to settle dispute Kanpur , where Union Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal Congress has won the last three times .
It is expected that the committee of BJP to take a call on the proposal to change the BJP president Rajnath Singh ‘s challenge from Ghaziabad to Lucknow , instead of the former minister Lalji Tandon UP .
Mr. Tandon has said he is willing to abandon the single seat for Mr. Modi . Lucknow has been represented in the past by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee , and is considered a stronghold of the BJP
